Jewish holiday of Sukkot celebrated in Detroit

A Jewish group celebrated the holiday of Sukkot on Thursday in downtown Detroit and West Bloomfield.
Organized by Chabad Lubavitch, an Orthodox Jewish group with centers in metro Detroit, the celebration featured the riding of bicycles and cars with mini homes on the back of them, said Chabad members.

Sukkot is the Festival of the Booths, a seven-day Jewish holiday that runs this year from Sept. 27 through Oct. 5. During the holiday, observant Jews often make temporary structures known as sukkah (plural is "sukkot"), which symbolize when Jews wandered in the desert.
Some Chabad members rode a bicycle or car outfitted with a sukkah on the back to highlight the holiday, said an organizer.

Chabad Lubavitch also organizes an annual Hanukkah festival in downtown Detroit with a lighting ceremony.
